I believe that we should create e-portfolios as an investment to ourselves. As an educator, being able to organize my thoughts and process into one place with be greatly beneficial and I can work out my issues in real-time. E-portfolios can help students as well as myself develop self-reflection skills. As we reflect on our work, we are forced to think about our strengths and weaknesses, our learning goals, and the strategies we use to achieve those goals. This can help us to develop self-awareness and self-reflection skills, which are essential for lifelong learning.
I had never really thought of using it as an investment in myself to connect to other practitioners and finding and sharing my voice in that way. I never thought of pulling together all the pieces, my notes, my reflections, videos, thoughts, readings, social media posts, blogs, etc. and making that shift from the “dumping ground” to carefully curated content. I haven’t really thought of taking the time to organize and share the work that I have done in that manner. I knew I wanted to share things with others, but hadn’t thought of “how”. This is the why to use an Portfolio. Check out Who Owns e-Portfolio post!
